I have a document template that has Header Styles 1-6 and I need to add a Header 7 style. The format for the style is A.1.1.1.1.1.1 but when I set it up and go back to the document, insert Header 7, it just puts in A.1.1.1.1.1.1 irrespective of the last Header 6 number.
I have gone to Format/Styles and Formatting, Right Clicked "Modify", gone into the Format/Numbering/Customise and the only difference I can see between Header 7 and Header 6 (or any other Header) is the fact that only the last 1 is greyed over in Header 7 whereas all the other Headers all the Alpha/Numerics are greyed over.
Can anyone help please?

Personally I'd restructure the document.

The difference you see is significant - shaded numbers refer to higher levels, unshaded ones are just literal text. Try deleteing the unshaded numbers and selecting the Previous Level Numbers, one by one.

Enjoy,
Tony
