WORD Template - Page Numbering Problem 1

I created a template in Word, if I use normal.dot and the fields within the footer e.g. Page 1 of 3 all is well.

Then, I created a new template based on Normal, used the following:
Page { PAGE \*.MERGEFORMAT } of {NUMPAGES \* MERGEFORMAT }

When I print I get 2 of 2, 3 of 3, 4 of 4.

I don't appear to be able to find out why, I do realise that the total number of pages comes from File - Properties - Statistics tab, all is well there!
