Hi,
we've got a W2K Metaframe XPa Server on which we lost the Word-Symbol in the explorer for *.doc and *dot documents. Word starts correctly after doubleclicking the document but the explorer doesn't show the word-icon !

I already "refresh the FTA Information" by right-clicking on server in CMC! It didn't help!

Thanks for your help!

Are you saying Windows Explorer?
If so, do the file type icon thing.

Yes, the problem occurs in the windows (file) Explorer !

What is the file type icon thing ?

Sascha

Go into Windows explorer, then click on tools, folder options. Switch to the file type tab. Find the .doc extension, it will be listed under Microsoft Word Document. Highlight it, then click on edit. From there you will see a change icon button, click on that.
Then you will have to find the Word program, which should be here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\WINWORD.EXE
When you choose it, it will show all the icons imbedded in the program, the normal icon for Word is the 4th one. Which looks like a piece of paper with the corner folded over and the W in the left corner.

the file tab seems not to be editable in a terminal server environment !

in the citrix knowledgebase there are only tips for associating a new file type by entering a registry key!

but we've only lost the symbol !

thanks sascha

You might have to do it from the console, logged in as an administrator. You probably have a policy set that prohibits this.

no way to do it from console or with admin rights.

finally i did the registry key thing for being able to enter the file type tab in windows explorer!
----
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer]
"NoFileAssociate"=dword:00000000
---

it worked fine !

thanks for your help !

Sascha

That's good, but change that back when you are done so the users can't mess around with it.
By the way, that is a group policy setting you changed.
