Hi there!!

Could really use some help with inserting page numbers in headers & footers....I know that sounds easy enough but it definitely gets alot more tricky when not wanting a page number to display on the very last page of my 10-page document...I just can't seem to figure this out and it's driving me absolutely insane!! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. If you would be so kind as to giving me step-by-step instructions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much!
Sandra

Put a section break in your document just before the last page and set the header/footer for that section only to have no page number. Section break is from Insert menu, Break, Section break next page
Hope that helps

HI there! Thank you very much for your response, but I'm still not getting it...I have tried that a hundred times - I know how to insert section breaks, but there is definitely a step I'm missing and I can't figure it out. Do I need to be in another view altogether when I insert this section break?

Insert your section break at the end of your second to last page Go to View, Header and Footers in the new section. Go to wherever the page number is showing on the previous page and untick the button on the H&F toolbar that says Same as Previous. You can then remove the page number from that section only.

I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!! YEAH!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Hi rosputko,

If you don't want to add an artificial extra section to your document, you can do it with an IF Field:

{ IF { PAGE } <> { NUMPAGES } { PAGE } }

(where the braces are Field delimiters)

Step-by-step to do this:

1. Position your cursor in your header or footer where you want your page number.
2. Press Ctrl+F9 - the display will show [highlight grey]{ }[/highlight] (where there are two spaces between the braces and the cursor is between the two spaces
3. Type [blue]IF[/blue] then type a space
4. Press Ctrl+F9 again
5. Type [blue]PAGE[/blue]
6. Move your cursor two positions to the right
7. Type a space, then type [blue]<>[/blue], then type another space
8. Press Ctrl+F9 again
9. Type [blue]NUMPAGES[/blue]
10. Move your cursor two positions to the right and type a space
11. Press Ctrl+F9 again
12. Type [blue]PAGE[/blue]
13. Press Alt+F9 to hide the field code view
14. That's it - there is no more

(there isn't actually a need for the spaces - I just like to use them, but you can miss them out if you like)

Enjoy,
Tony
