Word Only Prints With Focus in the Document

I have Office 2007. This only happens in Word. When I give a print command (either clicking the 'print' in the menu or ctrl+p) then the Print dialog comes up, as it should. After making any necessary selections (copies, collating, etc) then I click OK. At this point nothing prints. At the bottom of the screen it says "Printing <filename> (0 pages completed):" Now if I click focus back inside the document, then and only then does the printer actually spit out a piece of paper.

I'm not necessarily looking for a solution here. I've uninstalled and reinstalled office a couple times for other issues but this one never goes away. It's more of an inconvenience than it is a true error. What I'd like to know is if anyone else is having the same problem. I've tried searching this as well as other forums but no one seems to see the same thing happening. Just want to make sure I'm not crazy!

Can't duplicate the problem here, but you may still not be crazy...
