Hi all,

Regarding a Word Table, does anyone happen to know the keyboard shortcuts for:

a) Inserting a new row - a row with a "new line" - i.e. NOT an additional <return> within a line.

b) Deletion of a row within the table.

Thanks for your help.

The person within our office who asked for these keyboard shortcuts has used Word for a considerable time. So I'm expecting that if there are actual shortcuts, she probably would have heard about them.

In the meantime, I decided to set up a couple of icon-based keyboard shortcuts. The steps, for anyone interested, are as follows...

1) From the menu, choose: Tools - Customize.

2) In the "Customize" window, click the "Commands" tab.

3) Under "Categories" (on the left), choose "Table".

4) Under "Commands" (right side), click-and-drag the "(insert) Rows" icon to one of your existing toolbars.

5) Do the same for the "Delete Rows" icon.

6) While still in the "Customize" window, right-click on the "Insert Rows" icon. Then in the "Name" box (3rd from top), change the name to: &`Insert. The ` character is the one immediately below dthe <Esc> key and to the left of the number 1.

7) While still in the "Customize" window, right-click on the "Delete Rows" icon. Then in the "Name" box, change the name to: &1Delete. Use the number 1 on the top row (not the number pad).

8) Close out of the "Customize" window.

Now, after you've created a table, you can "very easily" insert or delete rows, as follows:
Insert Row: Hold down the <Alt> key and hit the ` key.
Delete Row: Hold down the <Alt> key and hit the 1 key.

These shortcuts will also work on multiple rows. Simply highlight the rows first, and then use the shortcut.

I hope this can be of use. My fellow office worker "really" appreciates having these.

Word XP
I have a serious problem with the new word XP -
1. You cant save the normal.dot - this means you cant change the toolbars and save it - if you want to save normal.dot, you rename it and then it saves it as normal.dot (regardless of what you name it)

2. You cant change images - they are locked - if you want to actually click on them....you click the mouse very fast and many times...and maybe....just maybe you can get them to change....

Sounds like some seriously bad bugs in word office XP...
any suggestions

I'm affraid I don't have a solution to your problem but I should point out a couple of things, as you're new to these forums.

The big thing is not to 'piggy back' other threads. The main reason for this is that your question has nothing to do with keyboard shortcuts - as shown in the subject line. You will probably (no guarantees) get better response form a subject like "Unable to save normal.dot - Word XP"

You may get the odd person who'll visit this thread (like myself) to see what Dale's asking about (Dale is a highly valued and respected contributor to this forum and doesn't ask many questions!) but your chances are increased by starting your own thread.

Have a look at the FAQ at the bottom of my posting to get some guidelines on how to get the best out of these forums.

Good Luck in your search for a solution and welcome to tek-tips!
