word image link to convert to pdf image link

Anyone know how to import an image into MS word and then turn it into a link, kind of like what HTML can do with an <img> tag?

I need to have pictures as links in the PDF file but unless I can create a picture link in word that will convert over to a link in the PDF. I will have to re-add by hand 10 links every time the document gets updated and regenerated from word.

any thoughts??
