Word frames

I'm finding working with Word's frames (the old kind, not the web kind) through VBA confusing. There don't seem to be enough properties to fully define their behavior. For example, one of my frames (which I use to hold a figure with its caption) appears on the page BEFORE the point at which the frame is inserted. There is no property of the frame object which refers to its anchor, nor one that lets me infer which page the frame is on. Are there any good examples out there of how to manipulate frames through VBA? (my 1200-page Word VBA book doesn't even mention them)
Also, is there a better way within Word 2000 to handle figure/caption combinations? Word certainly has made it more laborious to work with frames in this version relative to other versions (frames no longer appear on the standard menu), so perhaps there's a better way...
Thanks
Rob
