I am converting word files into a quark file to create a book. Is there a way to bring those files over without losing italics and other instructions?

To import a word file holding italics, bold etc in a Body Text Style try the following:-
Sort out your quark template and set up style for Body Text. Type a few words into quark template in the body text style.
Go to “File” - “Save Text” call file “Body Text Style” and save as MS Word format.
Open up your word file with keystrokes you require. Go to “Insert” - File, locate the word file you have just created and click on insert, the words you typed in the quark file will now appear at the top of the job.
Select all text, go to “Format” - “Style” and select “Body text style” (the one you have inserted), the text should now change to body text style. Do not worry about font or size. Save file.
Make sure that the “body text” style is highlighted in quark before you do next procedure.
Open the job template, click in text box and then “File” - “Get Text”, locate word file and import into quark. Make sure “Convert Quotes” and “Include Style Sheets” are ticked, and click ok.
On the next dialogue box tick the “Repeat for all conflicts” box and click on“Use New”.
Ignore the missing fonts request, just click continue. The word file then imports into Quark, and should all be in “body text style”. If not, highlight and click on main text style in the style sheets.
Now you append the styles from the template again “File” - “Append” select the job template, include all styles, and again tick “Repeat for all conflicts” and “Use New”.
Now you have to delete all the unwanted word styles that have been imported, to do this, select all in the file and copy, now open the job template again and paste into this file, you should now have a minimum of character styles to delete manually.
Now you can do a “Font Usage” search and replace the stylised fonts with correct style.
