We are using Office 2002 on XP PCs, and recently installed Word/Excel Viewers to enable people to read docx files. All installed via Active Directory.
Many of our users have found this has reset their .doc and .xls file extensions to Viewer. Obviously we can manually change the associations, and running Detect and Repair will fix it, but Windows updates will often reset it all back to Viewer.
Most of our users dont know how to manually reset and ignore emailed instructions (grr) and this issue causes a massive number of calls to our helpdesk, complaining that their toolbars have disappeared or their keyboard is broken.
Is there a way of forcing the file associations via a group policy for all users?
