Word does not show the tool bar on startup it resembles notepad

When opening word it comes up looking like notepad I ve tried to uninstall, scan for virus, search the registery.

If you have the View menu item along the top, choose View / Toolbars and you should be able to select which ones you want - standard and formatting are the two commonly used ones.
