IE
We're currently running IE 6 and Office 2003. When users try to download word documents, if the "browse in same window" and the "confirm after download" option is on, then IE just closes - the word document doesn't open, and there's never anything logged in the application log about a crash. This is only affecting some PC's (it's definitely PC, not user profile issue) and seems to be completely random. Likewise I've been unable to re-create the problem.

The strange thing is, on most of the affected PC's - the first time the user tries to open a word document, IE closes, the second time however (only for the same document) it opens 99% of the time. Like I said, if I disable browse in same window or confirm after download, it fixes the problem though.

Can anybody at all help me out with this?

Have you applied all current Office and Windows updates to these computers? Check these out also...

-IE crashes when I click on a link to a link to open a word document.

-You could also try the detect and repair feature

Also consider and safely test any impact that your antivirus software might be having. Some AV might treat Word documents differently than web pages due to the possible VBA scripting.
