Word documents are in HTML

Hello,

I have a user who's Word documents appear to be in HTML. She updates the documents and sends them off to a secretary who then is supposed edit and insert a header, only being in the HTML format she is not able to do so.

Does anyone know how to convert mass documents to Word format and remove all of the HTML from them? I am not very well versed in MS Office.
