Word Document "flashes" when I try to close it.

When I try to close a Word document it begins "Flashing" wildly. When I click the Word document in the system tray it will ask me if I want to save my changes. I select YES and then it will close the program. This is when it acts good!! Some times it will begin blinking and the only way out is to shut the machine down. This is also occuring in Outlook when I try to close a Contact.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
