Hi,

I have really random problem. I have 3 word documents on my file server that I can't edit.

Most of the menu options are greyed out (for example Select All) and when I ever I click anywhere in the document it takes me back to the top of the first page.

I have checked it is not read only and that users have permission to edit but this doesn't appear to be the problem.

Any ideas???

Thanks.

Gavin.

Check to see if these documents are protected (Tools menu)

or

Check to see if Macros are greying out the menus.

Sure sounds like it is protected. When a document is protected you can not put the selection into any protected area. It will jump back to a legitimate point. If the entire document is protected it will always jump back to the start of the document.

Selecting commands (eg Select All) are greyed out.

If you don't know the Protect Password, just open a blank document and use Insert, File to add the protected document. That will unprotect it.
