Word Document Corrupts when attempting to print

I use several MS word documents (.doc files) as templates for a mail merge. The merge pulls data from an access database.
The merge itself works fine, until I try to print the documents; then the text changes to unreadable characters (almost like all the text has been squashed to the left hand side of the page).
This only happens randomly, sometimes it works ok and sometimes it doesnt. We have 8 users on our network, and 4 of the workstations have experienced this problem, again on random occaisions.
I have tried troubleshooting information on Microsoft; but cant work out whether it is a problem with printing; with word or with Access (where the data is coming from).
Has anyone experienced anything similar, or can anyone advise what they think the problem might be?
Many Thanks

Yes. This is a commonly reported problem and seems to have something to do with the printer driver when used over a network. The only advice is to delete and reinstall the printer driver (to make sure it isn't partially corrupt) and to reboot the computer immediately this happens (which seems to clear the problem until it happens again!).

It is being researched by MS.

We have the exactly the same problem in the same environment; also with use of wordtemplates but no Access-merge. We have tried a lot change templates, change fonts , change drivers. What we noticed is that the problem only occurs when one changes the printer in de printermenu!!When you change back to the default printer; the problem is gone and stays away (for that the document in use).We are working on it with several IT-companies..but with no result. Very frustating. So if you resolved the problem let us know.
