I have received WORD documents from other people, recently a resume. It was 35K when I received it and then I opened it, closed it and then Explorer said it was 65K. I have seen this before. Why the change when I did nothing. I have seen my files, sent to others shrink and then grow again when I open them - any ideas out there. I know that MS and Office runs all kind of stuff if you let them, is ther som etweaking I need to do? I just find out about FindFast and have turned that off. Appreciate any info. WORD 6 under OFFICE 97 under W98.

Well, your last statement could be your first problem. What version of Word do you have? Open Word, and hit Help-About Microsoft Word. You have 6.0 OR 97, not 6.0 IN 97.

Also, hit Tools-Options, Save tab. What are you saving your Word files as? Plain Word document (that would be the version that you're in)? If it says anything other than that, perhaps you're saving down by default, which can cause file bloating.

Perhaps your normal.dot is corrupt or saving something into the files? Have you tried closing Word and renaming your normal.dot (to abnormal.dot) file?

Hope this helps--let us know. And happy holidays! dreamboat@nni.com

B-) Ok - I messed up with mentioning the 6.0 - don't know why - I am running WORD 97 SR-2. And I checked the SAVE and SAVE AS defaults and they are set as Word documents. But thanks for the idea - I went into options and reviewed them. I knew there was a Save As option there. I found I had the FAST SAVE option checked. Unchecked it and did some before and after testing - it worked!

I was sending out my resume as 100K and this takes time for me to upload and peole to download - Taking out this option put the resume where it should be 38K!!!!! Forget Fast Save. My gut said it may be something MS had out there that was adding "code" to the document, which I may have set. Thanks for your help. My Xmas is just that much better today.
