I just tried KWord tonight... It looks and feels a little like MS Word, but my windows Outlook session couldn't open any of the docs I sent as test messages...

I tried sending a KWD document, a Rich Text document and a plain text document... MS Word couldn't read ANY of them...

If I'm going to switch entirely to the Linux platform, I MUST be able to generate documents, that MS Word will automatically recognize, interpret, and open, or it's a waste of my time...

I send too many documents, to too many people, who ONLY use MS Word... Most of them are too illiterate to worry about document conversions...

Any suggestions, or do I just keep using Microsoft products?

TIA

Joe

you've done sth. wrog, because I can export RFT or doc format from kword and it works. you should also try AbiWord (good), Staroffice/OpenOffice(good but slow), All the tings fromo KOffice and staroffice (for charst, graphs, etc.)
And you can still export all of them into postscript and after it into pdf. And read them anywhere. And html format is also good.

I use OpenOffice and have no problem sharing .doc files with Word. Ditto for Excel and PowerPoint - I've been sending them to MS Office associates with no problems. I highly recommend that you check it out. The URL is

I tried KWord... I could not get anything to work...

I tried Abiword... The RTF format does work, but none of the other extensions work... In fact, whenever I tried to save the current document as an HTML doc, it crashed the application...

So, Abiword / RTF is a possibility... But I still haven't tried any of the spreadsheets or presentation tools...
