Hi all...

Have a client who creates Word docs on a regular basis in French. He has not had any problems until recently with this. However, starting about a week ago when he tries to create a new document using French he gets an error:

"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to
close."

He's presented with the usual Debug, Send Error report dialog.

We found that this occurs after he does his first line return/hits enter while typing in the body document. Since this is when Word automatically creates the document title from the first line of text...it would seem it's an issue with titles in French.

This has never given him a problem before however. In fact he had several examples of docs he'd created this way. It doesn't appear to be related to the length of the title, or any non-standard characters either. If it's in French, or I would assume any non-English language, Word dies.

Any ideas?

OS: Win 2000 SP4
Program: Word XP Pro

Thanks,
Chris

Don't know how much this helps, but I know that office update has been pushing something down to do with the French language as of recent. Probably within the past couple of weeks or so.
I know that this isn't much help, but I really didn't pay attention. When was his last update?

Thanks infernon!

That's actually a big help. If a patch is at fault I suppose I could just completely uninstall Office. Reboot. Reinstall Office and make sure it doesn't run that update. Hopefully. ;)

Thanks for the info!
Chris
