Word Default Column Width screwed up!

I changed the default page margins in word. Now for some crazy reason whenever I open a document the single column witdth is 6" instead of 7.5". When I go to click on "1 column" under the format-columns tab. It will quickly go to 7.5 and problem solved. But I have to do this every time I open a blank doc. ARRGGG!!! I've tried changing the column width and going back to "page setup" and defauting it but to no avail. Help plz

Close all office products and search for the file normal.dot

Rename it to something else and then open word to see if that fixed your problem.

I found the file and renamed it to normalold.dot and then opened word. I pasted some text that I had on the clipboard and it still held the right margin at 6". I know it has something to do with the column setting being at 6" but I can't get it to default to 7.5" for a single column document. Im pulling my hair out!
