I'm still searching for a solution to my Word automation going very slowly on some machines - all with XP SP2 installed - and I *think* I've worked out the cause.

For each instruction I'm issuing from VFP via my oWord object, the workstation is almost certainly checking the users credentials against the domain. I don't get a problem in my office, because I don't connect to a domain...

Does anyone know how to turn this off?

We had an issue similar to that (Excel grief), but I'm not sure what the 'cure' was. My net admin isn't here today so I can't ask him.
But maybe this forum could help:

I *think* I have a fix - I'll get someone to test it on Friday.

It's possibly to do with the way RPC calls are handled - there are two options; one to use the NT service to authenticate the other to use local credentials. I'm *hoping* that by changing it to local credentials - that the whole thing will speed up.

I have a machine to try it on (assuming my client's patience isn't stretched too far) so I should be able to find out.

Update, I've had a chance to compare similar machines with SP2 and SP1 on them and it seems that it is an authentication thing, as suspected, but the big question is WHERE!

I got an IT guy on site to go through all the services and change their settings to local - because they were all different on the SP2 machine - but it made no difference.

Meantime the client needs the machine running, so the user is getting an XP SP1 to work with... one step forward, one step back.
