Word attachments with screen dumps

I composed a word document which had screen dumps and text box instructions for a disabled friend. I sent it via e mail to him. He received the e mail and word attachment (85kb) BUT the word document is blank!
Why is this (he has Word 2000 and I sent Word 97 doc)

Is your friend viewing the document in Page Layout View. Floating graphics won't display in Normal view.
