I have inserted some WordArt on a web-page and it generates some HTML code which refers to the following src:
src="tariffs6_files/image001.gif"

everytime I save the page it generates another version of this source.

However the Word Art doesnt display in Preview mode on the web.

What have I missed ????

Word and Publisher have WordArt, but I don't think FP2K does...I can't seem to find it on mine anyway. From your comments I suspect you might be using Publisher, which totally sucks at web page creation.
In any case, when you generate the page with whatever you're using, the program is creating a graphic image of the WordArt. Each time you generate the page, it sees the previous copy and is probably creating another image with a slightly different name to avoid overwriting the previous image. The preview may not display the image due to some sort of a problem with the path. A link to your online page would help or maybe a sample of the HTML code being generated.

I was using FP2003, I think I've resolved the issue. I've created the WordArt in Publisher and saved it as a GIF then inserted it onto my web-page. Seems to have done the trick.
Thanks
