word 97, win NT4. date issue

recently when i click FILE,Open then browse my doc files they are no longer listed in alphabetical order. any reason for this?
the files list alphabetically through NT windows explorer.
If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out
 
Hi RF
During file open, there are a group of icons in the upper right that control file viewing attributes. Click on the Details icon, (I think it's the second one) then click on the filename header bar.

You may need to click on header bar twice to get the files listed in the desired order.
