Machine has suffered badly with viruses and trojans, etc., but is now clean and running ok. Word 97 has SR2 installed.

Word, however, has recently developed an annoying fault when a Text Box is selected. The box is initially quite small, but as soon as an attempt is made to drag either edge horizontally, the whole box immediately snaps out to the full page width. Other than laboriously going in Format Text Box and manually altering the figures, there appears to be no way to adjust the width using the mouse. Vertical adjustments of the Text Box with the mouse are fine.

Have tried uninstalling Word, and then reinstalling, but it makes no difference.

Any way to restore it so the mouse can freely move the sides of the Text Box?

See if holding the ALT key while dragging helps.

Else, click on Draw (on the drawing toolbar), choose Grid and turn off Snap to Grid option.

Hopefully that's what was causing your problems.

Thank you for your response. I have shown user how to manually adjust the box, but will now pass on your words of wisdom! I'll let you know if he has success...

Hi Roger,

Rather than turning off the 'Snap to Grid' option, you might get good results by defining a suitably small grid size. The existing grid size might be excessivly large. I think you can define a grid size as small as 0.01cm.

Cheers
