I have a document which starts re-numbering pages halfway through. I found that the Headers read "Section 1" and then "Section 3". I do not remember adding anything like that even accidently. I am a heavy user. I cannot get rid of it; and my Table of Contents is messed and pagination impossible. I have even tried to cut and paste the section section into the first - nada. Main document shows me nothing. The only feature I have before this break is a small 3-column continuous break table. Even trying to fool the program into starting the page numbering at a higher number has failed. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Whenever you create a newspaper-style table in a document, Word automatically inserts a continuous section break right before and right after the table. In MS parlance: “This behaviour is by design.”
As for the headers and footers, you can set these per section. For the section created by adding the table, set the header/footer to “same as previous”. Per section you can also set the page numbering to continue numbering or to start numbering at a new number: click the Page Number Format button to display the formatting dialog box.
As for the table of contents, there are so many options and variables that I cannot tell from your description what may be adding to the problem caused by the "extra" sections.
