I create a new document in Word 97 (Windows NT) and when I close that document I'm not asked if I want to save it. In other words, I don't get reminded that I haven't saved my changes. Where can I go to re-set Word so that it will prompt me to save any changes before closing?

TIA!

rosebud,
does it save the document? check tools/options/save tab and see if "prompt to save normal templat" is checked. if it is and it's saving without prompting you it could very possibly be u have a virus. we've found a virus at our office Word.Class8m (not sure if that's the correct name) and I've found that it disables the saving prompt and automatically saves the word document so it can attach itself to the document. Btw, your name "Rosebud" reminds me of the Opie character on the Andy Griffith show (his son). One episode explained why Opie's middle name was "Rosebud". Any connection?

Thanks for the tip - I suspected a virus, I'll check on it. BTW, re: your comment about Rosebud. I've only come across one other person that connected Rosebud with a classic B&W TV show. Anyone familiar with the 'visual arts' usually connects it to Citizen Kane. You're absolutely right that 'my' connection was to a TV show, but it was the Dick Van Dyke show. Rob and Laura's son, Richie, had the middle name 'Rosebud'. I'm familiar with the Andy Griffith show but I don't remember Opie's middle name. Quite a coincidence if it were the same. Thanks, though, for noticing!

You're right. Now, I remember. It was the Dick Van Dyke show. Richie was given several names to appease family, relatives and friends. I think it was Robert, Oscar, Sam, Edward, Buddy (? not sure about that one) Ulysses and David. I knew it was from one of the old classics. I'm dating myself. Anyway, hope you're able to solve your Word problem.
