Word 97 goes too slow while writtig.. 1

Please, someone could help me with this problem.
I noticed that a pc with stardart configuration (processor/RAM/free hard disk space) becomes to slow, but this only occurs only in Microsoft Word 97(running under W95). The only way I found to resolve this is reformating hard disk. I tried to reinstall Windows 95 and Office 97 in the disk but when it finished the problem still. Thats why I opted to reformat the hard disk, after this the pc has an excellent performance and Word works fine. How could I give a solution and not have to reformat hard disk? . Notice that all software titles (drivers and programs/patchs) are the same before and after, and some months later the problem starts again and I must to redo all again. Only Word 97 is the victim. Where could I find the solution? Inside the registry?

Probably just rename the normal.dot file to abnormal.dot. This is the default template and it commonly becomes "corrupt". When Word cannot find normal.dot (because you have renamed it), it creates a brand new one.

Alternatively, you may just need to keep your hard drive cleaned up by deleting all *.tmp and ~*.* from the entire C:\; keep the C:\windows\temp directory cleaned out regularly of ALL files; and running (standard) scandisk and defragmenting on a regular basis.

What (if any) Virus Defense software are you using???
some can cause a problem, like VirusScan, which slows
typing speed down to a depressing rate. If you have
Virus software on, try disabling it and then typing...
the cause is that it scans .ini files all the time
while you are typing. This can be an even bigger problem
in CCMail, espically the newer versions of VirusScan
with the latest DAT files. And yea, make sure you get rid
of those pesky .tmp and .dmp files etc!

Sure. When this problem comes the first step I do is cleaning c:\windows\temp folder and running scandisk or defrag, but the problem remains. About antivirus software is relative. Some clients use Norton antivirus -version 7 or earlier with last virus definition update- or any other local antivirus, or no antivirus software. We tried several tasks for avoiding format the hard disk but this is the only solution we found.We asked it to Microsoft local office but they given similar suggest as you. I believe that a library or some data in the registry makes this.The exact fact is: the user is writing a new word 97 document, and some lines later, they still typing and the characters dont apeears inmediatly, they must wait about 7 seconds or more.Similar occurs while changes positions inside the same document.This makes computer is a ´slow´ pc.The other fact is only occurs with Word 97, if you load notepad.exe it works ok.

See if they get the same results when working only in normal.view.

Check to see that journaling isn't being used/turned on in Outlook at some point.

Hi Dreamboat. The problem is the same. I couldn´t fix the problem with any suggest. The only choice I had is reformatting hard drive and reinstall all. Thanks
