I've created a form in Word 97 with 2 sections. I have the first section protected and the second section unprotected which includes a table that I would like to sort data. The problem is that it won't give me the option to sort as long as the lock is on even though that particular section is unprotected. It gives me all other table options but sort. Any suggestions or work arounds to this problem.

Can you cut the table, paste is elsewhere, sort it there and paste it back into the form?

You can divide a document into sections. Insert > Break will get you the Break dialog box. Choose Continuous so that you don't break up your document into separate pages. Put a section break before the area that contains the calculationas and hyperlinks, and put another section break right after that area.
When you protect your document you can now choose which sections are to be protected and which to leave unprotected. Tools > Protect Document. Click the Forms button. Word will present you with the Section Protection dialog box. Here, you simply check sections that you want to protect. Clear the checks for the sections that you do not want to protect.
Sections are numbered. It helps to keep an eye on the status bar to see the number of the section in which the insertion point is.
Working with sections takes a little getting used to it, but it's worth the effort.
