This may sound like a really dumb question...but I can't find an answer anywhere. My Word 97 defaults to line spacing of 25.4 units, and I want a default of "double". How can I set the default line space for all documents, or is it locked in to paragraphs? TIA

Yeah, in a way line spacing is locked into pragraphs, though more specifically in the paragraph styles.
Start by changing the line spacing for the Standard Style in normal.dot, and other document templates if you use them.
Menu Format, Styles; select the style you want to change, press the Format button, choose Paragraph ... Select spacing from the drop-down box.
If you use any styles that do not copy spacing from the Standard style, you'll have the change spacing for these separately.
A handy shortcut for double-spacing: Ctrl+2.

Dreamboat...thanks, but I am afraid there is no default button. That's the problem. Ilses hit it...it is a paragraph parameter and you need to modify the normal.dot template. Works OK now. Thanks to you both.
