What am I missing here?

I've created a very specific TOC via the TOC-styles...It uses the dot (.) as tab leader and has the page numbers on the right. It works fine of course. Problem is, the width of the TOC is too high, meaning it's wider than the rest of the text in the document. I've read somewhere that you can control that by adding an extra tab in the TOC styles and that works just fine, however it completely removes all the dots...

Is there a way to get both?

I've searched for others who has the same problem but have come up with nothing. I've found out there is a tool/program by Madcapsoftware that might be able to do it, but that's not something I'd be interested in buying, since it it's one single problem and it really should be faily simple to solve, once you know how. I'ts probably just a single tick somewhere. I just haven't figured out where :(

You should be able to control that buy proper use of left/right margins.
Try this (Unfortunately I can only give the lower office versions' toolbar equivalents):

- View-->Rulers
- Select your TOC
- Now drag the triangular handle on the right hand side of the ruler and pull it to the left to where the TOC shall end

Does that help?

Cheers,
MiS

That solved it!! What an idiot I am, for not trying that. I have been fiddling with close to everything in the TOC paragraphs but never seemed to find the right way.

Thanks a lot!

Ah yes, it's the little things in life that drive us potty!

Glad I could help.

It was also not clear exactly WHAT you were referring to by "the width." I began to think that you meant the margins were wider, but then you stated that the TOC was "too high." That lead me to wonder, "Is he referring to the margins or something else, like the Font, or maybe some other feature that I am unfamiliar with?"

So please be clear, concise and complete, when you state your questions.

Sorry, I see your point. I was meaning the width and not the height :)
The actual problem was that by default the TOC-styles have a right tab of some 17 cm with . as tab leader. I never noticed that tab leader option and the box...While exploring the possibilities I added another tab at 16 cm right but didn't see the tab leader as mentioned, therefore adding it with no tab leader...
Stupid mistake from my side!
