Hi all,

I need to create a Word template with fill-in fields (I know how to do this part) that, when the text moves to page 2, the margins will automatically change.

For example, the left margin in Page 1 is 1.875" to accommodate letterhead on the left side of the page. If the letter needs a Page 2, the left margin will automatically change to 1" starting on Page 2 and for all pages that follow.

Any ideas?
Thanks so much in advance!! Have a great weekend all,
Kathy

Hi,

What is the actual specific question?

How do I create the template so that the margins will automatically change when a Page 2 is needed?

I know how to use section breaks, but I don't what a Page 2 to be visible all the time, only when the user enters enough text to require a Page 2.

Thanks,

Are you testing this as a .dot or as a .doc?

I haven't tested it yet because I don't know how to set it up...

If you haven't tested it, then how can you assert that what you said will actually happen when the user uses the template to generate a .doc???

Test and see!!! It amy take a few modifications of the .dot.

Hi Kathy,

1. Create your document/template.
2. Go to Page Setup > Layout and choose 'Different first page'.
3. Insert a page break to create a 2nd page.
4. Format the margins for the 1st and 2nd pages with the appropriate dimensions.
5. Delete the page break.
No Section breaks are required, and the 2nd page will not appear until needed.

Thanks macropod, but

"Different First Page" didn't seem to affect the margins. I tried it and, even after I delete the page break, the margins reflect the 2nd page settings on the 1st page.

I need different margins for 1st page and then for 2-N.

Thanks,

I don't believe you can do this.

Can you set up the letterhead at the side in a textbox that occupies the full depth of the page so that page content flows round it (i.e. to the right of it)?

Enjoy,
Tony
