Is there any way to change the viewing order in the style pane in Word 2007? I would like to have my document open on one computer screen, and drag my available styles to a window on my second screen, and make it really big so that I can see all of my styles at once.

The problem when doing this is that when I make the style window wider so that multiple columns show up, rather than being sorted alphabetically, going down each column, it is sorted across, then down. this is instinctively very hard to use, your eyes want to scan down a column rather than accross multiple columns.

Hope I've used the right terminology and have not been too confusing. Any help appreciated.

It was never intended for the Style Pane to be used that way and unfortunately, it isn't possible to change it. In fact, until I read this, I hadn't realised that you could do this with the style pane (probably because I don't have dual monitors so I have never had sufficient room to make it that wide).

I'll pass this on as a request for Word 14.

You don't need dual monitors to see the effect.

Interestingly I see multiple columns in 2003's Style pane but only 2 in 2007's no matter how wide I make it (and only 1 if I uncheck to show style preview).

I do agree that the display order is hard to work with but there is no way I know to change it.

Enjoy,
Tony

I see now why I was only getting few columns. It's because Word will use as few columns as possible but, once having been forced to an extra column, it sorts across then down.

Enjoy,
Tony
