Hello,

I have a word document where the first page is a table of contents and then i have a whole bunch of paragraphs that are numbered...something like this..

Table of contents...

page 1....intro

page 2.... facts

page 3.....miths

etc.......

then on page 2 my paragraphs are numbered for example

1.........

1a....

1b.........

2...........

2a...

2b... etc....

Is there a way so that when i delete for example paragraph 2... paragraph 3 will be automatically changed to say paragraph 2?? and also the table of contents should reflect the change automatically?...the goal is to have a template where i can always add and delete paragraph out with me having to change the numbering and table of contents manually..takes too long! :)
Thanks

If you use the NUMBERING feature, they will change accordingly. Hightlight all the paragraphs of a particular sequence. Then right-click and choose NUMBERING and select the numbering scheme you want to use. If your paragraphs indents were setup automatically by Word (as opposed to you putting them in yourself), Word should number the sequence correctly. Do that for each sequence of paragraphs. Once that's done, you can adjust the sequences as needed.

As for a Table of Contents, I would wait until you're done with your first draft before creating it. As long as you used the numbering feature, the table of contents should grab those schemes, apply them to the table and stay updated, as you change things within the document. I haven't used the Table of Contents feature, so you might have to run an UPDATE to bring it up to date but you shouldn't have to modify it manually. Hope this helps.

MMSMSD Thanks!...The numbering feature works great, I still have not finisehd the draft of the table of contents yet...got one question, what do u mean that I may have to run an UPDATE to bring up the date??

He means that Word has the capability of automatically creating the table of contents for you. You don't need to manually type one.

How to do that is explained very nicely in Word's built-in help.
