Word 2007 - Mail Merge Letterhead Problem

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a mail merge document in word 2007. It has 3 pages, where Page 1 has to print single-sided to headed paper in Tray 1. Pages 2 and 3 print to tray 2 and print double-sided.

The printer is configured for duplex.

If I merge one letter (ie 1 single-sided and 1 double sided page to print), then it prints ok.

If I merge two letters, the problem is that the letterhead page of the second letter prints back-to-front. That is, it comes through the printer as a duplex style page, but prints on the back of the headed sheet rather than the front. Pages 2&3 of the second letter print ok in duplex to plain paper.

This repeats if I choose more letters to merge.

My 'Page Setup' in word is 'First page - Tray 1', 'Other Pages - Tray 2'

If it helps understand the problem, I could cheat to fix it by flipping all headed paper over (except the 1st sheet) and it would print ok! But I'd much rather understand and fix the document.

Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Graham

Have you checked to see if Collate is checked under the print settings for Word?

Old habits die hard. I am still always in a rush to hit the Submit button.

Collate should be checked, if it's not.

Thanks for your suggestion xlhelp : I checked and the 'collate' option was checked.

Hi grazer10,

Sounds rather like you need to enforce blank last page, whenever a particular record produces an odd number of pages. To do that, you could insert a manual page break or, if a record can have an odd or even number of pages, field coded as follows, as the very last thing in the mailmerge main document:
{=MOD({PAGE},2) \# "{QUOTE 12};;"}

Note: The field brace pairs (ie '{ }') for the above example are created via Ctrl-F9 - you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this message.

Cheers
