This my next step that was started with thread68-1582801. This I felt warranted a new thread.

Links in Word are updating automatically, even though with selecting the Office Button>Word Options>Advanced. Then under General, the Update Automatic Links at Open IS NOT checked. Also, viewing the links by selecting the Office Button>Prepare>Edits Links to File, all links are set to manual.

I am in the process of moving out files in this case Word document/templates to Word 2007 from 2003. If I create a new document using the dot file, the links are not updated. But if I use the converted template (.dotm file extension) the file where the links are set (in this case an Excel file) is opened, the links are updated then the Excel file is closed BUT an instance of Excel is staying open.

With a new blank document in Word 2007 I add links from the same Excel file, set the links to updating manually, save it, close. When I open Word doc again, the same thing happens, the links are updated and the instance of Excel stays on top of Word.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
