in the Advanced Options of Word 2007 there are Compatibility Options where you can pick and choose what layout options you want to have in effect. Does anyone know where I can get an explanation of those options? Most of them I can figure out but some are not so obvious. I thought they might be in the Office Resource Kit but they are not.

That's an easy one.
Google for "word layout options list" and a link from the very first hit page (O'Reilly) is the one that should do nicely:
Description of the Compatibility options...
It's only for up to Word 2003, but it should cover '07 options too. If there still remains something unclear, tell us, what specifically is.
