My computer is a Dell Precision M6200 mobile workstation running Microsoft Vista Ultimate 64-BIT. I installed Microsoft Office 2007, SP2 and the "Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS add-in." Somewhere along the line, things have gone astray and while the other products in the Office Suite work just fine, Microsoft Word does not. [BTW, when I installed Microsoft Office, I had to do it while logged on as Administrator, otherwise I would receive a BSOD--something to do with Permissions I think.]

I can open a Word document but as soon as I try to do anything, it goes into a Not Responding state with the little spinning circle. For example, if I press Ctrl-F to initiate a search, as soon as I try to type the search criteria, I get the spinning circle that does not go away until I force cancel the task. If I do a File Save, the same thing happens. It does not matter what I try to do, Word goes into a not responding state.

Word had been working fine until about a week ago. I can't think of anything that I have installed that started the problem. I also did a complete uninstall of Microsoft Office, followed by a new install, and ended up with the same problem. I also ran the Microsoft Office Diagnostics and it found no problem.

I'm hoping that someone can help me. Thank You.

and the "Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS add-in."

Did it have problems before you installed this, or did you get a chance to try it before installing the plugin? If you didn't get to try yet, see if you can remove the plugin and try again.

Thank you, kjv1611. I just uninstalled the add-in from Control Panel, booted the system, restarted Microsoft Word and it still has the same problem (Not Responding). I will be grateful for any other ideas because Word is one of my essential applications.

Have you tried "run Microsoft Office Diagnostics", since you can get into Word to start with?

To do so, hit the Office Button, then choose Word Options, then select Resorces on the left, and click Diagnose on the right.

I still have a problem with Microsoft Word: Not Responding. But I know a little more. If I login to the Administrator account, Microsoft Word works fine. If I log in to my User Account which has Administrator Privledges, Word has the problem previously described.

That sounds like it could be a bug in Word which causes it to continue attempting to access some part(s) of the system before it finally just breaks.

Have you tried the Diagnostics?

A call to Microsoft provided a solution. There were corrupted entries in the Registry. I don't remember what we deleted, but we got rid of 5 or 6 entries and then it worked fine. The Tech who I believe was from India resolved the problem in about three minutes. I was impressed.
