hi all,

Word 2007 somehow inserts the "paragraph" symbol in front of each line in my document.

How do I remove that? It is now the default for all docs!

Thanks, John

Hi John,

Oh, Word 2007 -
Does clicking the pilcrow (ie '¶') on the formatting ribbon achieve the effect you're after?

Cheers

Wow, thanks macropod. How could I have overlooked that?

That removed the pilcrow symbol.

Thanks, John

What you did, did not remove ANYTHING.

It merely turned off the DISPLAY of certain document control symbols.

Skip,

for a NUANCE![tongue]

Hi John Bates,

No, nothing was removed. Those characters are called the non-printing characters (or "non-prints") and they are always there and they are very helpful. Anyone who doesnt use non-prints is really using Word with one hand tied behind his back. The pilcrow shows the end of each paragraph. NOtice you can see space characters, tab characters (press the tab key to see), line breaks (press Shift+Enter to see), and page breaks (press Ctrl+Enter to see). You can see a non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar). Without that wonderful little tool, how do you know the reason for a blank page at the end of a doc? There are a million reasons to toggle on and off the display of non-prints.

But when you toggle the display of non-prints off, you are not removing anything from the document.
