Hey how do you get rid of the crazy swoosh looking thing behind the documents in Word 2007. I’m sure this “MAC!!!@! like thing is hogging up my RAM and making it slower. And are there any other memory HOGGS I can eliminate to make it look like past 10 versions of Word.without all the FANCY stuff. $@#!$@#%@#

Please explain 'crazy swoosh'. I'm not seeing anything behind a document that resembles a swoosh.

the background behind the doc used to be white in the last 7 versions of Word now mine is blue and I'm sure it is a image of soome kind whihc takes up RAM and there is a distinctive Nike Swoosh looking wav pattern thing that's embedded in it.

OK. A swoosh is a sound to me!!!

The background is set under Word Options, General Tab, Colour Schemes. Yours must be set to Blue - try changing tit to Silver instead.

But this won't be bogging down your PC. How much memory does Word seem to be taking?

Regards: Terry

You cannot. The choice is just those three settings.

I guess I'll shut it off by removing it, and throwing the disks in the dumster and using Open Office !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All over a "swoosh"? As tf1 suggests- if you think this is slowing your PC down you have larger problems than that. What % of CPU is word taking when running? Have you considered closing other apps down when using Word? have you considered upgrading RAM?

Seems a tad harsh to throw out your Office suite costing hundreds of £'s just of a background image...

Calm the hell down, you're not making any sense. I'm impressed that tf1p was able to figure out what you were talking about.

If you choose Silver (which, in 2007, is changed by going to Office Button > Word Options > Popular > Color Scheme), it will not show the arch I think you're referring to.

But seriously, that little arch is causing you way too much concern.

While I certainly agree that this seems a bit over-the-top vis-a-vis a background image, is it really accurate that you can NOT have none? That you are stuck with one of three Theme settings?

Good grief.

That was also my understanding that this was not something you could turn off. Well im sure you could with some reg editing and toying around. But if he is having performance issues in word id be amazed if that image has anything to do with it.

Agreed. I also doubt the background image is causing serious performance issue. Still, for what ridiculous reason would they force you to have ANY background image?

More b.s. "eye candy" crap.

Gerry

I'm using "silver" but even with "blue" or "black" I see no background image on the background. I only see a pale gray (silver) background. I've got a high end monitor and see all other background images, so it's not anything to do with the monitor settings.

I'm running Office 2007 Professional on Windows 7 Professional. Both are fully patched.

Hope this helps.

Oh, never mind. I should have changed my colour "scheme" with a document open. Then I would have seen the "arch".

On my system using the "blue" background with the "arch" uses 23,536 K of RAM. The "silver" background without the "arch" uses 23,312 K or RAM.So the "arch" or "swoosh" is having no impact on your performance issues.

What are the specs for your computer?

Hope this helps.

You will no doubt be relieved to know that Word 2010 does not have a swoosh in any of the color schemes
