Hi, i have a formatting question. My dad gave me his laptop. Everythings fine, except that he has somehow managed to switch the options so that the "blank paper" above the first line of text is cut off from view, no matter what you try to do except print preview, which shows you the full, non-cropped paper. I use print layout when i am typing, as I assume do most people, but no matter how much I zoom out, you can not see the full paper again until you return to print preview. This probably sounds like a petty problem but I find it very difficult to ignore. I have spent quite a while trying to figure out what my father tweaked, but I have been thus far completely unsuccessful.

Hi,

The "blank paper" above the first line on a page is the margin and header. When using a word processor, you can choose to view the Normal or Page Layout. Normal just shows where the typing area is. The Page Setup defines the margins, so why worry about seeing DEAD SPACE? Just type and get the job done.

When the test is finally complete, you can view the whole document, adjust margins and work with the finished product. That's what a word processor does.

Skip,

Hi. I appreciate your trying to help. I am, however, familiar with how a word processor works. As I tried to make clear, it is simply an aggravating aesthetic issue. I have been using Word for many years, and Word 2007 since early 2006, and I have never had this problem before. It is seemingly intractable. I am using page layout view. Why does it view it this way on my laptop? My desktop copy of Word continues to display the page "correctly.

Hover at the top of the page until the cursor turns into two little white boxes with arrows in them then double-click.

Thank you so much for your help. Worked perfectly.

Whilst you now know the shortcut, here's where it is under Word's configurations settings:

Office Button/Word Options/Display/Show white space between pages in Print Layout view
