Hello all, I trust this is something simple.....A contractor inhereted some .doc files. He modified them with Office 2003. He recently had Office 2007 installed, and now when he opens those same documents, they open without any of the changes he made (back to the original way he inhereted them). If he makes changes using 07, of course the changes are retained. He's running XP Pro SP2 with local admin rights. Thanks in advance for your help.

When standing on the edge of a cliff, a step forward is not progress.

This has nothing to do with W2003/W2007 conversion or compatibility. Either he is opening the original documents he inherited or something was broken when he edited them and the edits didn't get saved.

There really is no need to convert the documents: next time he opens them in Word 2007, he can just save them in Word 2007 (docx) format. Perhaps he did a restore recently and restored from unedited docs?

I suggest that he updates XP to SP3 solely for the additional security.

Is it possible that Track Changes is enabled? And that the Show option (Original vs Final, perhaps) is different on the two systems?

Enjoy,
Tony
