Hi

I have a simple 40 page procedural document which contains about 60 screenshots from an Access database.

As I have been compiling this its performance each time I open it has slowly deteriorated from taking about a minute to open (including trying to fire up my DVD drive!) to crashing Word completely.

Its running across a network.

I'm figuring its something to do with all the pictures but don't know what the problem is. Any suggestions?

Kevinski,
You seem to have a resource/memory issue. If you check the size of your document, it should be quite large by now. You can try to compress your pictures in Word to reduce the size of the file. In addition, I'd try to change some of those screen shots into a smaller size picture if possible by converting all of them to *.jpg files. Otherwise, greater storage space and more memory may be in order.

Hope this helps.

The problem is very unclear. What had the DVD drive got to do with opening Word? What is across the network, the DVD drive or the document? Is the document on a server? Does Word open correctly (at normal speed) if you open it without a document? Do other documents (across the network) take a long time to open? Do document from your local drive talke a long time to open? If you move the document to your local drive, does it still take a long time to open?
