Hello.

I have recently been asked to create a template in Word 2002. The problem is that the users would like the template to prompt them to fill in a set of fields upon opening. I remember a long time ago doing this in Word 97 but cannot for the life of me remember how to do this. If anyone can give me some pointers or direct me to a suitable website I would be extremely grateful.

Regards

Paul

Also, you could create a macro on the template that will pop up the "Fill-in", so that when the user opens the template, the fill fields will pop right up.[spidey]

Sorry I havn't replied and thanked you for your help. Are there any websites that anyone knows of where I could find an example of the above in action ?

Thank you

Paul

Gentlemen
The guy is asking about Word 2002 and you reply with links to Excel stuff.

I use word professionally since 1995 at least.
I agree with BlueHorizon: "If you need the field to be filled in more than one place, you can use bookmarks."
For Word 2002, I personally prefer to display a VBA Form with input fields that users fill in and then click OK and the code takes care of putting the values in their respective places in Word using Bookmarks.
I provide a button to run this macro for updates in addition to AutoOpen.
However, there are cases where you have to use input fields within the document (especially if it is just because your boss wants it like that;-)).
Like BlueHorizon said: Insert_Field and on the left side select Fill-in, but choose from field properties and options what suits your needs best.

Ha, guess I should read a little more closely next time, my bad[blush]

Gentlemen thank you all for you help. I think I've got it nailed using fields and fillins. Still have a bit to learn with regards dropdown and check boxes but thats all part of the fun now I've managed to clear some time in my diary. Eman2005 thank you for a solution I completely overlooked and would be more familiar with. If I have more time I may go down the VBA root !!

Paul
