Word 2000 to publishing program???

I work with large documents (>3MB) in Word 2000. Recently it has consistantly began hanging (completely frozen to all actions) after a few minutes.

i assume this is because of the document size. I can't break it up because the internal hyperlinks are very important.

can i convert it to another program (MS publisher, etc) and maintain my hyperlinks, while being able to edit and add more data/text???

I hate to tell you that this not easy if impossible. You would be much better using Publisher 2000 altogether, or you could try one of the Adobe programs for publishing, such as InDesign 1.5, FrameMaker, or PageMaker which convert and support Word documents as far as i know.
