Word 2000- Symbol feature 3

How can I get the 'symbol' feature back in the drop down list of insert menu?
The user says it was there yesterday.
I have used repair and unistalled then reinstalled Office, but no luck.
The symbol font is present in the font folder.

Go to Tools, Customize. Click on the Commands tab. Click on Edit in the Categories box. Scroll down in the Commands box until you find Symbol. With the Customize box still open, drop down the Insert menu. Left-click and drag the Symbol onto the Insert menu.

A user can delete a choice from any menu by right-clicking it and choosing Delete. Maybe s/he did this accidentally. In any case, changes made to the toolbars or menus should retain during sessions.
