Word 2000 Shuts down after type Dear (name) , 1

It is drving me nuts. Microsft word 2000 crashes after you type:

Dear so and so,

You have to use a comma in order for it to happen. If you spell Dear wrong like Dare it does not crash, so it is definately caused by that phrase Dear person,

I have tried update to osr3 and have done 2 full virus scans no progress. Any suggestions anyone! Please

Hi,
I suppose writing 'Oi you' is not an option so instead I'd look into the office assistant to see if it is causing it. My recollection is that that particular phrase causes the assistant to pop up asking if you are writing a letter.

I agree with Marc above. Try uninstalling the office assitant. If this stops the crash, and you are happy without it, then fine.

Would you take the time to let me know why it would be the office assistanct as oppose to the Auto Correct/ Auto Fill etc options and libraries Word keeps?

The problem may not relate to Word but to a adware blocker. I have tweeak xp pop up blocker installed on my pc and as I type certain addresses it closes the window as I get to the .com eg

http://www.whitepages.com.au

it would close the window as I type the m on the com.

This may not be your answer but its a possible other solution.

The reason I think that it might be the office assistant is that it is triggered by the phrase 'Dear Name,'. I've just tried starting to compose a letter and after typing the address etc. typed 'Dear John,' and up popped the assistant.

It might not be this, but it's worth considering.

Thank you. I wasn't aware the office assistant could caused the issue. However my thinking was the file(s) or section(s) that holds all of the auto correct and auto finish (etc.) is some how corrupt or something. thank you once again for the information.

I have not been back to the customers machine yet, but Its gotta be the Office assistant. It makes sense. I'll let everyone know if thats it
