Word 2000 Mailing Labels

On one installation of Office 2000, when you try to open a New Document for mailing labels it does not display the borders between labels. In fact, without highlighting the page to see the cells, you would never know that the document opened with label formatting. I cannot locate anywhere to change the default settings for mailing labels. Does anyone know how I can bring these borders back by default - without them printing?
