We have a lot of word 2000 documents in our File server and all these files has add-in templates reference pointing to another server which we took offline.
The problem is if we open anyone of those documents while the other server is not on, it will take about 20 minutes or more to open. When I turned the (offline) server on, the files open fast.
While the server is offline, and if I use a windows98 machine with same ofiice 2000 installed, same documents which has add-in refence opens fine.
I know that this issue is unique to windows 2000 professional computers, because as I mentioned I have no problem open in windows 98 computer. So, word 2000 running on windows 98 doesn't seem to care whether all the refences and links are there or not, but windows 2000 professional seem to care.
Has anyone seen this problem, and what could be solution?
