I have a work collegue who has a word 2000 file with diagrams showing the position of mooring buoys within the harbour, with the name of the boat that is occupying that mooring. He also has an access 2000 database with all the moorings information within it. What he'd like to do is using hotspots or alike, be able to select a mooring on the word diagram which would then open up the relevant database record - can anyone help please? Thanks

Can do. First of all - how is the diagram created? If it is a Word diagram, you can make text a MACROBUTTON.

Say on the diagram you have sixteen moorings, labeled Mooring1, Mooring2 (or whatever - as long as it is text). Instead of writing the text, where you would write the text, go Insert, Field, MacroButton. Enter the name of the macro (see below) then the text - like Mooring1 etc.

That way, the text would be there in diagram, but it would fire a macro. Click on "Mooring1" and it would fire a macro to get the data - presumable to display as a form or message box.

OK, Step 2. You would have to write a macro to do the opening up of the database. I am not a database guy, so you would have to get any help you need from someone else. Although it seems to me that this would be a common thing to do.

Hope this helps.
